Kiiiiids

I decided that since I'm practically writing blog posts on Facebook anyway, I might as well just put them in blog format. At least this way I can easily look back at it after the fact.

So today was my first day with campers! They were only day campers, overnight kids come next week, but this is a good way to kind of ease us into it. It was a blast, I had a group of 6 nine year old girls who were exactly as precious and adorable and annoying as they should be. :) We went on a hike, where we found tons and tons of moose poop (the girls were very excited about that) and caught butterflies and caterpillars. One caterpillar was especially endearing to the girls, so they named him Muncher and carried him around all day. We went to art and made animal sock puppets-- two hamsters, two snakes, a worm, and of course, Muncher in puppet form. Then we painted watercolors of our favorite bugs (resulting in more homages to Muncher).  One thing we do here is read to campers, so after lunch we looked out over the lake while I read them a Ramona Quimby book, which talked uncomfortably more about drinking, smoking and dying than you would expect in a children's book. Next time I will suggest we perhaps not go for that one. :-P

After that, we played a few games and sang a few songs, then set off into the woods to make "gnome homes" and "fairy houses". Each girl builds a shelter for either a fairy or a gnome and then they write letters to them and leave them overnight. And of course, the "gnomes" and "fairies" write them back. :)

It was a fun day, and we get the same group of girls again tomorrow, then our overnight campers on Sunday. Yay!
