From now on, every week we'll be moving to new tents at different campsites throughout the grounds (which are quite large). Of course, I was moved to the campsite the furthest from the one I'd been staying in, and of course it is on the top of a giant hill, and of course I brought two very large, heavy suitcases. So moving was a blast. :-P I did make sure I was the first one too the new tent though, so that I could pick a bed. In our last tent, I was the last counselor in the camp to arrive, and it was at 2:30am, so everyone had already chosen their cots and were fast asleep. I ended up getting stuck with the last remaining cot, which was broken and had only half of a mosquito net, so I made sure that didn't happen this time.
Tomorrow we get our first overnight campers! They're only here for three days, our shortest overnight session. I got paired with another counselor, and together we will be leading a group of seven and eight year olds, which is a lovely age and I'm super excited. :)
One thing I haven't mentioned is that we follow the tradition of picking "camp names" for ourselves. Everyone picks a name that they are known exclusively by to the campers, and the campers spend their entire week trying to figure out their counselors' real names. You can choose to tell them or not, but it's a fun little tradition. I don't even know most of the other counselors' real names, because we all call each other by our camp names. There are some really silly ones, like Earthworm and Scooby and Yukon Sally. Mine is Summer. I picked it because summers are warm and bright and happy, and that's the kind of association I'd like my campers to have with me. :) It's funny, I went by Lucy during school last year, but it never really felt like me. Somehow Summer feels completely natural and I don't even notice that it's not my "real" name. Sometimes we slip and call each other by our actual names, but not once has anyone here ever called me Kate. And it would actually feel really odd to me if they did.
I'm feeling a lot better than I was, but I'm still coughing a lot, especially at night. I finished my antibiotics, so if it's not gone in a week or so I'll see about getting back to the urgent care.
Okay, it's late here (though very sunny) and I have to be up early tomorrow. Gnight all. :)
